Democracy! Responsibility!
last monday i voted. one vote among millions in an effort determine the future of the country.
this evening i voted again. one vote among 12 in an effort to determine the future... the peace and stability... the security... the pest control... of our little town home.
unfortunately where the campaign and voting process of the national elections was civilized and voting itself took a few minutes i can not say the same for the democratic exercise that transpired...
it started at 8... promptly enough... 830... and it took until 930... one full hour to resolve 2 simple issues through voting.
i sat there befuddled and amused. i was trying to contain my laughter as supposedly responsible adults were going round-and-round... recurring topics which were supposedly resolved kept -well- recurring. two were old (read... nah, to evil) and kept pressing points long dead.
one of the more irrepresible elders was an old... i mean age-advanced woman. who was hell-bent on preventing her neighbor from smoking in his own home. citing how she dies every time... and how the airconditioner sucks in smoke... bla bla bla... in a god awful coñotic broken english this side of coñoness...
i couldn't help myself from grimacing. many time's the president was about to adjourn the meeting... and as many times was he vetoed by the elders with pressing concerns.
nothing to say really. aside from... thank god, that it's the youth who always make the difference and that the old guard is gonna buy the farm... soon.
disclaimer: i have nothing against old people. but i think it was during their generation that alot of our problems now cropped up.
